Die before you die

We die all the time.

In that moment when someone walks into our path and doesn’t even notice we are there, or transgresses on our body in worse ways.

When someone’s actions rip away our comfort, our safety, switches us from okay to not okay.

When, what we believed in, suddenly becomes untrue, and we see our folly and error.

When someone we relied on, maybe even through agreements and contracts, still fails us, and we feel completely alone in this world.

When our voice is quenched. When the words we want to desperately speak are suffocating in our throat.

When all the visions we had of the future splinter into frozen peas rolling away on the ground.

When purpose seems like a ridiculous aspiration, a lie we tell ourselves about who we could be.

We die.

We die.

We die again.

Die before you die, the Sufis said.

Let go.

Inspire. Expire. In between aspire.

In breath. Out breath. In between look at our shadows and and revel in our creations.

Find joy in ebb and flow.

Focus on who you will become every time you rise from the ashes.

Joy is wanting what you have, not getting what you want.

Life keeps moving on.

With or without us.
